Spring calipers are used to refer dimensional measurements to other linear measuring tools like rulers, micrometres or verniers. They comprise of two flat legs pivoted on a joint and pulled by a spring bow consistently. An adjusting nut is used as a stopper to hold the legs in a fixed position against the forces of the spring. The nut can be moved throughout the length of the threaded shaft to open or close the measuring legs, altering the distance between the two. Once the gap between the legs matches the dimension of the object under inspection, it can be easily measured against a ruler or other measuring tools.
Inside Caliper: Used to take measurements of distances between two surfaces like the thickness of grooves and the inner diameter of pipes and bores.
Outside Caliper: Used for external measurements like outer diametre of pipes and bores, linear dimensions of objects etc.
