What is a Morse Taper?

A morse taper is a form of a shallow taper which is self-locking in nature and is thus used to interlock two components having complementary tapers. Once the male taper is pushed into the female cone the wedging action of the angle and the frictional forces hold the two pieces together.  Many engineering tools including drill sleeves, extension sockets, arbors and revolving centres utilize the concept of morse tapers to mount them on machine spindles, tailstocks or other components. 

Morse Taper adaptor

A Morse taper adaptor has a female morse taper bored into one of it's ends. Any component having a matching male taper can be mounted onto the adaptor. The other end of the adaptor slides into the machine spindle and is held in position by means of a pull stud thus transmitting the motion of the spindle to the component.

Dual Contact Holders

Dual Contact Holder eliminates the gap between the flange and the machine spindle thus resulting in two contact surfaces; the taper and the flange.The resulting setup offers higher rigidty both radially and axially thus boosting it's stability. The vibrations are reduced and the tool life increases.Higher bending stiffnes allows for higher machining speeds and accessibility to extended lengths without compromising the finish quality and the tool life.
